MasterChef says 'Goodbye Deb'

Yeah. Read the title. Frankly, I expected Julia to be the one to go this time. Its hard to believe lukewarm pork was judged poorer quality than slightly burned tart. I HAD hoped the judges would pull the same trick they did in Tasmania, considering that neither of those dishes, in my opinion, deserved to be judged as better than the other. But no such luck. It appears. No such luck. I guess that's the way the cookie-or in this case, tart pastry- crumbles.

So, goodbye, Deb. Seeing Deb go hurts almost as much as seeing Andrew go did. I miss Amina and Jules, too. Goodbye, and good luck, Deb, Jules and Amina. (Jules and Amina left last week, on Thursday..I like Julia. I like her a lot. But I''m sorry to say, I liked Deb more.

MasterChef Australia says "Goodbye, Andrew"

Yes, its the second post in one day from me. Actually, the first post is a repost, pulled across from one of my other blogs. But that's not important. What is, is that I've grown sorta fond of some of the people on MasterChef this series. I've identified the ones I like the most, and the ones I would be the least upset to see leave. And last night, one of the ones I liked the most lost in the pressure test. He's come a long way, he made it to the top 13. He's got, just as he said himself, fantastic talent and tenacity. I hope he stays that way, even though he's no longer part of this series. I also hope the show believes in second chances, cause if he comes back next season, I can forsee a LOT more from him. Then again, I've felt the same way about several others, also.

I really, over the last nine weeks, have grown to like Andrew a lot. He ended up in yesterday's pressure test do to an invention challenge that was really WEIRD. The contestants had the choice of six pairs of ingredients. The second ingredient of each pair was chocolate. Not so strange, I agree. Just you wait. CAVIAR. VEGEMITE. BACON. BLUE CHEESE. CAULIFLOWER. BEETROOT.

Anyone who thought the words in capitals were the first part of each pair, is exactly right. And those pairs were WEIRD. Amina picked caviar. Beau picked cauliflower. Andrew picked blue cheese. They then had to match those with a choice of four chocolates. Some of the other contestants did really, really well. Congratulations go to Kylie, who won the challenge, as well as to Jules and Julia, who put up some pretty impressive desserts. All three, if I remember correctly, using vegemite and white chocolate as the 'heroes' of the dishes.

But that's not my point. My point is that I really liked Andrew. Hell, I liked all three of the ones in the pressure test last night, and I can't honestly say that I would have been less upset to see Amina or Beau leave. Beau's pressure test dish was perfect, or very close to it. Amina's and Andrew's both had flaws. I must be honest, and say that I thought the flaws with Amina's dish were more problematic than the ones with Andrew's. Andrew's chocolate wasn't tempered properly, and the parfait was delicious, but lacking in texture, due to a minimum of crunchy violet flowers and rhubarb. That must have been a bitter disappointment for Andrew.

I guess I should have seen Andrew's elimination coming, given the judges comments, but I didn't. I'm going to miss his creativity and his passion in the MasterChef kitchen, and I, like the cast of this year's series of MasterChef, wish him the very best of luck in everything in the future. According to the judges it was a tough call, and regardless of what happened last night, they were proud of all three who were in the pressure test for managing to plate up the dessert-y thing.

Beau's dessert-y thing was perfect, the judges raved over it. I can't really say much more.

Amina's desserty-thing was over-salted, although the sweeter parts of the dish seemed to shine through and cover the over-salting.

I must say, though, that cake/patisserie dessert thingy was HARD. I was staring at it and going "WTF?! HOW are they going to pull THIS one off?!?!" I think many of the other contestants cheering on the balcony thought the same thing. Andrew was very tense and stressed. I think he may have been in one pressure test too many, but he seemed in the other pressure tests to actually THRIVE on the atmosphere, whereas in last night's one, he was jumpy and agitated.

I'm really not sure whate else to say. It was a hard challenge, and the contestants all tried their best, I'm sure of that. So good luck for the future, Andrew, I look forward to seeing those 'ready meals for families' in supermarkets and food shops across Australia, whenever they come out. And good luck to everyone else left in the MasterChef 2012 series.

Uh, yeah. Terri out.

Spanko Chefs?!

Yes, you read that right. Spanko Chefs. I'm currently watching MasterChef Australia. (God bless the internet, and whomeoardver the wonderful person who figured out how to make tv shows work online, so you can watch shows again online, or catch up on what you missed, is!) and there was a week in which they had several really faous celebrity chefs... and this is with the fact the show is actually RUN by three very famous chefs, with plenty of regular guest chefs. Gary, Matt and George, who are the best known faces of MasterChef Australia, aren't going to feature in this post. They might in a later one, who knows.

This post, features a wooden board. And an antipasti competition. (Anyone who can tell me what the difference between antipasti, antipasto, and antipasta is, will win brownie points!) And Jamie Oliver. (To whom go my sincerest apologies, respect and admiration.)

My first thought, when that board showed up, was: 'Are we completely SURE that's a food-grade serving platter, and not the headmaster's paddle?' A thought echoed a few minutes later in the program, with guest chef Matt saying 'don't let the plank spank you." Jamie also made a spanking comment at the time.

Jamie went on, during his running commentary on what he was doing, as well as what the three contestants he was competing against were doing, (well done, Alice, Tregan and Jules, you three were great, but this happened two weeks ago, and I'm just now blogging about it, so, sorry!) to make a few more spanking comments, mainly about how worried he was about whether his planned dishes would work, or whether he'd end up getting spanked.

But the real winner came when the judges, (regular Matt, Gary and George) were handing out their decisions. Jamie, with an odd, almost embarassing (to the viewer, and perhaps to those there at the time!) candidness and honesty, said that the ending had been 'bittersweet'. He then went on to say that he 'quite would've liked to have been spanked by these girls.'

Whether he meant that he would have preferred them to outscore him in the challenge, or he would have preferred the presence of a fifth board, for practical use, is yet to be seen. But one can speculate. And one can be deliciously embarassed by the speculation. And one can pray to any higher being, or to whatever one holds holy, that one can look Jamie in the face if one ever meets him. Cause, after a line like that, I somehow doubt I'd be able to look the man in the face.

Whether MasterChef Australia has any more similar gems to pull out remains to be seen.

I did warn you

Well, I did say this blog would be sporadic at best, and random at worst! But not even I thought I wouldn't update for two years! Thsi blog gets less attention than my MySpace account, and that's saying something! I'm on Facebook more often, but it seems we're going to have to start paying for FB in July. Stupid, isn't it? The Farmville guide really does work, I'm using it myself. I know nothing about the stockbroking thing, though. Pretty pathetic for an accoounting student, huh!

Introducing Terri

Hi. Stupid way to start a post, but, that's the way I am, and you'd better get used to it. Sorry. That attitude has saved my life a few times, but it is a little unnerving to people who aren't used to me.

Well, now that I've confused you, I may as well introduce myself. Judith Theresa Minerva Anne Cecilia Georgiana Norah Hermione Yvonne Mavis Granger-Durham at your service. Very long name? VERY long story. I chose the name, because it has everything which is important to me in it.

So, what's important to me? Books, music, TV, DVDs, cooking, sports. I like life. Now I'm on anti-depressants, I want to live. I didn't, once, but you don't want to know about that. Trust me. I've left the two names people would be likely to know me by legally up for a few years, so I'm removing them, because I don't think everyone needs to know what I'm on about.

I was a little vague, earlier, so I'll explain. Currently, my favourite books are the Billabong series, by Mary Grant Bruce, and Enid Blyton's stories. I love the Famous Five in particular. As for TV, and DVDs? M*A*S*H and All Saints. Yes, All Saints. It's an Australian show, about an outer-western Sydney hospital called All Saints Western General. More about All Saints later.

My favourite movie and book is Harry Potter. I love Harry Potter, I always have. Harry is my best friend. Well, no he's not, but I think you know what I mean. And, I sorta know how he feels about the Dursleys. My mother means well, and she's a great woman. But there's no way on God's Green EARTH that I would leave her alone with authority over my children. She deals well with the ones she doesn't own. The ones who are hers, she damages. I know. I'm talking from experience. Once again, if you know, it's old news, if you don't know, you don't want to.

So, now that I've got that depressing detail out of the way, welcome to my new blog. It will update, sporadically at best, sometimes not at all. I apologise sincerely to my loyal readers(!) for any inconvenience caused by the delays. *Ducks to avoid rotten fruit being thrown at head for imitating Connex announcer* (Don't ask, just don't ask)
